Accessibility Checklist.

What can venues, museums, producers, and educators do to promote accessibility?

Physical Access.

  • Ground-level entry, ramped access, and/or elevators to the venue
  • Signage at inaccessible entrances with directions to accessible entrances
  • Wheel-chair accessible box office, staff, dressing rooms, display classes, exhibit areas, counters, and bathrooms
  • Accessible emergency exits
  • Audio/visual emergency alarms
  • Designated accessible parking spaces with adjoining curb cuts
  • An accessible route from parking to the venue entrance

Communication Access.

  • Designated staff member responsible for overseeing accessibility
  • State policy or mission statement regarding accessibility
  • Access Committee including people with various disabilities
  • Sign language interpretation
  • Scripts and text of verbal presentations
  • Assistive listening system
  • Open or closed captioning
  • Audio description of visual art, media, performances, or other presentations
  • Print materials in alternate forms
  • Large-print labeling
  • Tactile tours
  • Appropriate disability systems
